Flippin' Gladiators
A downloadable game
Flippin' Gladiators is a business card-sized micro-RPG where you play a Roman gladiator. It's a combat-focussed, beer and pretzels game designed for solo play, and created for the "First annual Micro-RPG Business Card Edition!" jam.
This business card-sized micro-RPG includes:
- Simple, fast-paced rules
- Quick character creation, including 4 historically inspired loadouts
- Uncluttered, pictorial character sheet
- Procedure for things to get worse for your character to facilitate solo play
- 8 varied enemies
- Risk/reward character advancement system
All you need to play this game is a printout of the card, a pencil, and a rubber. Having a coin to flip is optional, but recommended, as the card is marked up to be flipped as a stand in for a coin.
Flippin' Gladiators is heavily inspired by (or, arguably, a hack of) Prole by Nate Treme (aka Highland Paranormal Society). In particular, it borrows the ideas for the main resolution mechanic, character creation, and coin tables.
